Render, Wall & Brickwork Cleaning in Southport

Green and black streaks on render are usually algae. We soft wash them off. Brick and stone get hot water, with the pressure turned right down on anything soft.

Render: soft wash, not a jet wash

Render is one of the easiest things to ruin with a pressure washer. A strong jet can scar the finish, strip the colour and push water into the wall behind it. So we soft wash it: low pressure, with a cleaning solution that kills the algae and lichen so the staining rinses off.

It works on most render, painted or through-coloured.

Brickwork and stone

Brick and natural stone can take a deeper clean. Hot water lifts the dirt that cold water leaves behind. On softer stone we turn the pressure right down and the heat up, because it's the heat that does the cleaning, not the pressure.

Keeping it clean

After the clean we can put a biocide on, which kills the spores so the algae doesn't come straight back. A damp, shady wall near the coast will always grow something in the end, but a treated one stays clean a lot longer.

Render and wall questions

Can you jet wash render walls?

Not with a strong jet, no. High pressure can damage render, especially the modern coloured and painted finishes, and drive water into the wall. We soft wash render instead. It's low pressure, and the cleaning solution kills the growth so it rinses away.

Why has my render gone green?

That green and black staining is algae and lichen. It grows where a wall stays damp and doesn't get much sun, so north-facing walls, walls near trees and houses near the coast get it worst.

How long does render stay clean after a soft wash?

A lot longer than after a plain wash, because the treatment kills the growth right down to the spores. How long exactly depends on how damp and shady the wall is. Some walls keep getting lighter for a few weeks afterwards as the last of it dies off.

Can you clean brickwork and stone walls too?

Yes. Brick and stone get hot water. On softer stone we turn the pressure down and the heat up, more of a steam clean, to lift the dirt, staining and green without damaging the surface. We can add a biocide to slow it coming back.

How much does render cleaning cost?

It depends on how much wall there is, the type of finish, how easy it is to get to and how stained it is. We come out and have a look first, so the price is accurate, and the site visit is free. Give us a call on 07704 237470, send an email or use the form to book one in.
